New Zealand Economic Development
The Ministry leads development and implementation of the Government’s economic development agenda. This includes co-ordinating work on the Growth and Innovation Framework across departments and other Crown agencies.
Economic development is a complex business, and the Ministry undertakes a wide range of activities to foster it. Our strategic priorities focus on particular areas where increased effort is likely to be most positive for growth, but all our work aims to enhance growth.

Within the Ministry
The Industry and Regional Development Branch is responsible for putting in place the strategies and organisational structure required to position the Ministry of Economic Development to:
- Advise the Government in economic, industry and regional development matters
- Oversee implementation of new policy initiatives, including New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (the New Zealand Government's trade and economic development agency) and new business development initiatives
- Provide close support to the Minister in a wide and varying range of policy issues
