Within the Ministry

The Fuels & Crowns Resources Group of the Energy and Communications Branch is responsible for petroleum products and biofuels market policy within New Zealand. This Group is also responsible for fuel quality policy. The Energy Information and Modelling Group of the Energy and Communications Branch is the source of information for the oil (production and price) statistics reported on this page. The Crown Minerals Group of the Business Services Branch manages the oil and petroleum resources of the New Zealand Government, including providing and promoting investment opportunities in exploration and development. The Energy Safety Service of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs is responsible for the monitoring of quality for petroleum and alternative fuels.
