Facilitating the deployment of broadband infrastructure
The Government is consulting on a range of regulatory and non-regulatory measures that will support the roll-out of both the government's recently announced ultra-fast broadband investment initiative and the government's rural broadband strategy.
2010 consultation
On 14 June 2010, the Ministry released a discussion document seeking feedback and Expressions of Interest (EOI) on a proposed Deployment Standards Initiative to develop nationwide fibre deployment standards and to test those standards through a number of pilot deployments at selected locations, to facilitate the roll-out of broadband infrastructure.

2009 consultation
On 7 October 2009, Communications and Information Technology Minister Steven Joyce released a discussion document seeking comments on measures related to access to support structures and services, access to land and Resource Management Act controls for public comment. Forty-nine submissions and seven cross-submissions were received on the proposal.
Deployment Standards Initiative: Proposal for Comment
On 14 June 2010 the Ministry released the following discussion document, which sets out preliminary views on an initiative to develop nationwide fibre deployment standards and to seek Expressions of Interest on pilot projects.
