ENUM - Electronic Number Mapping

ENUM is an internationally approved method for connecting the telephone communications network to the Internet.

The Ministry of Economic Development currently holds the ENUM domain for New Zealand (4.6.e164.arpa) on behalf of the New Zealand Crown.  ENUM policy has yet to be developed for New Zealand, however the Ministry is currently consulting with the telecommunications industry on ENUM issues.

The Telecommunications Carriers Forum (TCF) ENUM Working Party prepared a report on ENUM in May 2006 (see the TCF website for further details).  In consultation with the InternetNZ ENUM taskforce, it was agreed that the ENUM project be temporarily suspended due to pressures from other regulatory activities, and that work in this area resume in 2009.

For more information on ENUM please visit the International Telecommunications Union website.
