Takeovers Panel
The Takeovers Panel enforces the Takeovers Code, grants exemptions from the Code, and promotes public understanding of the law relating to takeovers. The Panel keeps under review how takeovers law applies to companies and recommends to the Minister any changes to takeovers legislation it considers necessary.
MED is the monitoring department for the Panel and helps the Minister of Commerce to oversee the Panel’s performance and how it is carrying out its functions. MED also administers appointment processes for new Panel members, helps to negotiate the agreement between the Minister and the Panel for the services or outputs the Panel provides, and deals with any issues relating to funding for the Panel through the Government's Budget process.
