Electricity Regulatory Framework
The electricity industry is covered by generic and specific legislation and regulations.
The Government Policy Statement (GPS) on Electricity Governance sets out government's objectives and outcomes for the Electricity Commission. It is made under section 172ZK of the Electricity Act.
As the Ministry is responsible for developing and implementing policies for the electricity sector, from time to time we review and develop legislation to ensure it reflects government policy. New regulations are also developed. Information on reviews and development (including consultation) is available below.
