Using the Directory
Contents
The majority of listings in this directory are ecolabels. To assist the user, the directory also includes a range of other tools used to promote or differentiate products or services in the areas of environmental and/or social sustainability performance. This directory does not include labels used for the express purpose of demonstrating safety performance standards or product quality, unless they also have a significant sustainability component.
The directory does not include all ecolabels or related tools in use around the world. An attempt has been made to include the ecolabels that are significant for New Zealand organisations and consumers, and also overseas organisations with interests in New Zealand. It is anticipated that the number of listings will continue to grow as existing ecolabels become relevant to New Zealand, or as new ecolabels are developed.
Where ecolabels have been withdrawn or are no longer used, they are still retained in the directory, but marked as "No Longer Valid". If an ecolabel is suspended or removed by the directory Administrator, it is marked as "Suspended or Removed".
No attempt has been made to list individual organisations, products or services that have been awarded ecolabels. This information is often available via the ecolabel owner's website, or through other directories of "green" products, services and organisations.
Searching the Directory
The Ecolabel Search form enables users to list all labels in the directory, return a specific label, or select all labels with certain attributes, such as type, industry sector, and geographic use. Where a search returns more than one ecolabel, search results will be presented as a list, from which users can select the ecolabels they are interested in. A synopsis of selected labels will then be presented, including a hyperlink to the "owner" website. It is also possible to export search results to Microsoft Excel for further analysis.
Users are able to search for ecolabels by using one or more of the following search fields:
Name (free text entry) - returns all ecolabels with the search term in the ecolabel name.
Type (drop-down menu) - returns all ecolabels of the selected type (only one option can be selected per search).

Scope (drop-down menu) - returns all ecolabels corresponding with activities, industry sectors or product groups (only one option can be selected per search).

Keywords (free text entry) - returns ecolabels where the keywords appear in any part of an ecolabel listing).
Adding a New Listing
The "owners" of ecolabels are encouraged to submit details of their ecolabel, so that it can be listed in this directory. This can be done by using the add new label form to provide general information about your organisation and ecolabel, and a copy of the ecolabel logo. Once submitted, this information will be reviewed by an Administrator to ensure that it meets our definition of an ecolabel, that you are the owner, and that the information provided is appropriate.
Editing or Withdrawing an Existing Listing
The "owner" of an ecolabel may request that their listing be edited, amended or withdrawn via email Once submitted, the request will be reviewed by an Administrator to ensure that you are the owner and that the request is appropriate.
Providing Feedback
Any user may provide feedback about the scope, content and functionality of this directory, via email. Feedback submitted will be reviewed by the directory Administrator, and where appropriate, acted upon. Complaints about the use of specific ecolabels should not be directed to the Administrator.
Administrator's Rights
The Crown (the owner of this site) reserves the right to refuse to list an ecolabel or to amend, suspend or remove a listing, if the directory Administrator is satisfied that the listing is incorrect or misleading. The directory Administrator will make reasonable efforts to consult the owner prior to taking such action.
