Engine Fuel Quality
Petrol, diesel, ethanol, biodiesel and biofuel blend quality in New Zealand is governed by a set of regulations designed to protect consumers and the environment. These are the Engine Fuel Specifications Regulations 2008, which can be found on the New Zealand Legislation Website. These regulations replaced the Petroleum Product Specifications Regulations 2002 on the 1st of July 2008.
The most recent changes to the regulations are the addition of specifications and other requirements for ethanol, biodiesel, and blends of these with petroleum fuels. Amendments to the regulations were also made in 2007, which will require all diesel to have a maximum of 10ppm sulphur from 1 January 2009.
