Schedule of Domestic Natural Gas Prices

Model New Zealand Consumer - 7,000 kWh per annum

The Schedule of Domestic Natural Gas Prices presents a summary of the effective charges charged by natural gas retailers and natural gas distributors. The effective charge represents what a model 7,000 kWh per year consumer would pay per kWh based on gas companies' total (fixed and variable) charges. The figures include GST and account for any deductions received from prompt payment discounts.

As an example of the calculation of the effective charge, assume a retailer charged 55 cents per day (all figures inclusive of GST), and 6 cents per kWh of gas consumed. Assume further that the retailer offered a 10% prompt payment discount. The effective charge can be calculated by calculating what a model 7,000 kWh consumer would pay over a year ($621) and dividing this figure by 7,000, to get an effective charge of 8.87 cents per kWh.

Note that distribution charges do not include transmission charges, and that effective charges will vary for different levels of consumption. See the Notes associated with the schedule for more important notes on this survey.
