The New Zealand Customs Service ("NZCS") is seeking to play a greater role at the border to prevent the importation of counterfeit goods and pirated works. It has been proposed that the NZCS be empowered to investigate and prosecute the importers of counterfeit goods and pirated works under the Copyright Act 1994 and the Trade Marks Act 2002.
