Motor Vehicle Traders
The Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR) is publicly available electronic register that contains information about whether a motor vehicle trader is registered, and information about the trader's business, including its physical address.
Motor vehicle traders can access the MVTR online to:
- Search for information about themselves and other traders
- Search the banned persons list
- Register as a motor vehicle trader
- Renew their motor vehicle trader registration
Members of the public can access the MVTR to check if a person or company is a registered motor vehicle trader. When a vehicle is purchased from a registered motor vehicle trader, the trader takes responsibility for any existing security interest (unless the security interest is disclosed to the purchaser).
The MVTR is established by the Motor Vehicle Sales Act 2003 (MVSA), which replaced the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act 1975 on 15 December 2003.
For comprehensive information about using the MVTR online services please visit www.motortraders.med.govt.nz and access the information library from the left hand menu.
