A reform of State sector procurement policy and practice was announced in June 2009. The reform programme has four work streams:
- achieving cost savings;
- building procurement capability and capacity;
- enhancing business participation;and
- improving governance, oversight and accountability.

Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS)
The Ministry administers the Government Electronic Tendering Service "GETS" (www.gets.govt.nz). GETS is a free service designed to promote open, fair competition in the New Zealand government market and meet international trade agreement commitments.
Government Procurement Policy
The Ministry provides policy advice in both a domestic economic policy context (competitive markets, business/SME development) and an international context (trade obligations and objectives).
Government Procurement Development Group (GPDG)
The centre of advice and expertise for New Zealand government procurement within the Ministry.
