Business Compliance
The Ministry has responsibility for promoting measures to improve the quality of the government's regulatory process and provides government with advice on measures to minimise compliance costs to New Zealand business. The Ministry’s Regulatory and Competition Policy Branch is responsible for the development and implementation of these measures. Reducing compliance costs is an important ongoing issue for New Zealand businesses, particularly small businesses that often find it difficult to manage their compliance obligations.
The www.business.govt.nz website is designed as a "one stop shop" for compliance-related information and assistance for business, including a list of compliance obligations. The website provides links to various agencies, including information on tax obligations, employment agreements and ACC levies. Business tools are provided also on the site and include online training, online transactions and forms, and publications. These link to transactions and forms that can be completed online, and publications that are downloadable. The full set can be accessed from the www.business.govt.nz homepage and relevant subsets from within a topic page.
Many government agencies have compliance costs tools and resources designed specifically for small businesses.
