Reviews and Development

As the Ministry is responsible for developing and implementing policies for the electricity sector, from time to time we review and develop legislation and regulations, ensuring they reflect government policy.

The Ministry's focus is on the regulatory framework and governance, but reviews can also cover the implementation of specific government policies (such as facilitating investment in generation by lines companies).

Review of the Reserve Energy Policy
The Electricity Commission made recommendations to the Minister of Energy following a comprehensive review of the reserve energy policy (as required by the Government Policy Statement on Electricity Governance [GPS] of October 2004).

Electricity Works above 110kV and 100MVA on Roads and Level Crossings
Sections 24 and 31 of the Electricity Act 1992 were amended with effect from 9 August 2005. The amendments remove a potential barrier to the timely development of electricity infrastructure.
