Electronic Commerce


The Ministry coordinates the development of electronic commerce policy across government agencies to ensure that regulation of electronic commerce facilitates its growth and does not create new barriers and costs to business.

COMET Accelerator Project
The COMET Accelerator project is taking 30 New Zealand Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from a low or no e-commerce and export capacity, through to being skilled users of e-commerce tools, business supports and broadband to access global markets.

E-Commerce Summit
This paper outlines some broad options for holding the Summit. We seek a decision as soon as possible on the options that we should pursue. This is to allow adequate time for organisation and arranging speakers and address funding issues.

Within the Ministry

The Information Technology and Telecommunications Policy Group within the Energy and Communications Branch is responsible for the ICT component of electronic commerce policy, while groups within the Industry and Regional Development Branch deal with the business side. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has an interest with regard to consumer rights in electronic commerce transactions.
