ICT HiGrowth Project (ICT Implementation Body)
[ Last Updated 14 October 2005 ]
The ICT Taskforce recognised that there was a need for cohesion within the ICT sector to:
- facilitate the exchange of ideas and knowledge,
- to encourage the sector to "own" the growth target (to grow 100 companies with a $100 million turnover by 2012); and
- to build the partnership begun with the Taskforce process with Government and other institutions.
It recommended that an industry led implementation body be established for the ten year life of the ICT growth strategy, with government funding for an initial period and industry funding thereafter.
To this end members of the ICT Taskforce set up Higrowth with the assistance of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, and with an Advisory Board comprised of a cross-section of industry leaders. HiGrowth's purpose will be to drive the achievement of the growth target through such practical initiatives as building the sector's human resources, increasing the commercial knowledge base and supporting the sector's entrepreneurs through improved mentoring and knowledge sharing networks.
Commencing in 2003/2004, HiGrowth will continue for the following nine years. Funding over the first four years has been allocated on the basis of the government's anticipation that industry contributions will increase and that eventually it will be self-funded by industry from 2007/2008 onwards.
Total coast: $1.500 million
