Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson joined the Ministry in June 2007 as Deputy Secretary of the Competition, Trade and Investment branch.

Prior to joining MED, Andrew worked for the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the United Kingdom as Director of Science in Government, driving forward a program across Government to improve the use of evidence to underpin policy decisions. He also led the Foresight programme, running major multidisciplinary projects that considered opportunities for the economy or society arising from new science and technologies. While in Foresight the projects he worked on included developing responses to challenges around drug use (therapeutic and recreational); obesity; sustainable infrastructure; energy; and increased flood risk.

Andrew has a wealth of managerial experience gained from previous roles with DTI as Assistant Director Economic and Monetary Union, Assistant Director European Competition Law, Manager of a small firms development programme and Manager of the Department's legislative programme. Andrew has also worked in a private capacity as a strategy consultant advising organisations from Blue chip companies to the CIA and charities.

Andrew has a BSc with joint honours in biology and biochemistry from Keele University and a Postgraduate Diploma with distinction in the economics and law of competition policy from City University London.
