About the Programme
[ Last Updated 30 April 2007 ]

Our graduate programme was set up in 2002. Each year we recruit between 5-12 graduates to work in a variety of teams across MED.
The programme begins with a comprehensive induction programme covering the key things you need to get started at MED and gives you an opportunity to get to know the other new graduates, your new team and other recent graduates across MED.
In addition to the development opportunities offered within your team, we have a coordinated graduate learning and development programme over your first 12 months. This offers a variety of initiatives to increase both your knowledge of the work we do and to help develop the skills that will enable you to be successful at MED.
We also support paid part-time study for courses related to your work. Graduates with law degrees can apply to be supported through their Law Professionals, following their first 12 months service.
You will get variety in your job as a result of working in different teams and branches within the Ministry. You will work on a range of projects, and with many different people from across both the public sector and wider business community.
Our rotation programme means that you will have regular opportunities to move into a new role to increase your knowledge and experience.
Your role may also involve travel as we deal with many national and international issues.
We offer a competitive starting salary which is reviewed after both 9 and 18 months.

Sam Thornton, Energy Analyst
"The work environment in the Ministry of Economic Development was a great place to start my career (and still is!), with friendly people who are always willing to help if you need it. The highlight of my career to date has been the freedom I've been given to think outside the square. I get to think about how people use energy information, ways I can improve it and what can be added. A big part of my job is thinking 'how can this be done better?' and then doing it!".
