Who We Are
[ Last Updated 25 March 2008 ]

The Ministry of Economic Development's broad goal is working to ensure the business environment promotes productivity growth. We are working to ensure New Zealand is one of the best places in the world to do business and to make New Zealand business successful on the world stage.
The Ministry of Economic Development provides advice and services over a wide range of areas – but fundamentally we are leading a whole-of-government approach to economic development. We provide policy advice to the New Zealand Government on issues that affect the economy and then turn these ideas into reality.
The key activities that we are involved in include:
- Securing our energy future and managing New Zealand’s natural resources;
- Harnessing information and communications services and technologies;
- Promoting sustainable tourism;
- Building international links to enhance business growth;
- Promoting responsible business governance, dynamic competition and trusted capital markets;
- Empowering consumers and boosting the productivity of New Zealand's regions.
For more information about the work we do and where we are heading check out the About MED section.

Rosie Spragg, Policy Analyst
"The Ministry of Economic Development is a dynamic organisation to work for; it covers a wide range of policy areas many of which are government priorities. The Ministry provides a good working environment and encourages social activities, as well as opportunities for career development. The Ministry and my Manager in particular have been very supportive of my personal and career development - I'm now focussing on developing my skills to become a senior analyst in the future."
