Review of Financial Products and Providers
The government is undertaking a review of financial products and providers. The key objective for the review is to develop an effective and consistent framework for the regulation of non-bank financial institutions, intermediaries and products.
Review of Parts 4, 4A, and 5 of the Commerce Act 1986
The Ministry of Economic Development is currently leading a review of Parts 4, 4A, and 5 of the Commerce Act. These parts relate to the control of goods and services and to authorisations and clearances.
A Research Exemption for New Zealand's Patent Legislation
The government has decided to consider the issue of whether or not an experimental use exception should be incorporated into New Zealand's patent legislation.
World Intellectual Property Organisation - Principles and Policy Objectives for Protection of Traditional Knowledge
The IGC has recently distributed a revised version of the two sets of draft Policy Objectives and Guiding Principles in preparation for the ninth meeting. The Ministry of Economic Development is preparing the New Zealand response to the documents and seeks the views of interested Māori and others to inform the preparation of the New Zealand response. Submissions closed on Friday 7 April 2006.
Securities Trading Law Review
The Securities Legislation Bill requires regulations to be promulgated before certain parts of the Bill come into force. A discussion document on the Securities Legislation Bill Regulations was released on 21 March 2006.
