Deputy Secretary, Industry and Regional Development
Mark Steel joined the Department of Trade and Industry in 1985 and has worked on a wide range of regulatory policy issues, including competition law, state enterprises restructuring, intellectual property, company and securities law reform, and international regulatory policy co-ordination.
Mark held the position of Deputy Secretary, Regulatory and Competition Policy branch (now Competition, Trade and Investment) for 5 years, but moved to the Deputy Secretary role in the Industry and Regional Development branch in November 2006.
Mark has a MA in political science, an LLB from the University of Canterbury, and a Master of Public Policy degree from the Australian National University.
