Welcome from Alan Dunn, Panel Chairman

Alan DunnWelcome to the Website of the Ministerial Panel on Business Compliance Costs.

The Panel members have been appointed and the Panel’s work is underway. Background information on the Panel members is included in the press release issued on 21 December 2000 by the Hon Paul Swain, Minister of Commerce. The press release is included on this Website. We are fortunate to have Panel members representing a wide range of business interests and backgrounds.

I am very aware of the high level of interest in the work of the Panel and the Government’s overall programme to reduce compliance costs. I see the Panel as a means of representing the interests and concerns of business in identifying practical steps that can be taken to implement specific changes where these become evident. The Panel’s involvement can also set the scene for an ongoing involvement by business. To achieve this we need the full participation of the business communities.

I am very much in favour of an open consultation process. It will be of great benefit to the Panel to receive views on compliance cost issues from individuals, partnerships, companies, business organisations, professional bodies and business sector groups. Comments can be sent by email, fax or post to the Business Compliance Cost Secretariat. Contact details can be found at the bottom of each page. Further details of any formal consultation will also be posted on the website.

We want to ensure that those who wish to keep up-to-date with our work and with public announcements and material as it becomes available have the electronic means to do this.

The use of a Panel website is in keeping with the need to use the electronic communications system available to us and with the need for businesses to take full advantage of e-commerce initiatives. It provides the Panel members with a low cost opportunity to give you up-to-date information on the Panel’s work.

We intend putting all public notices, reports and news releases generated by the Panel onto the website, leading up to our report to the Minister by 30 June 2001.

I hope that you find the approach useful.
