Jim AndertonA new era of partnership has begun for economic and regional development and business in New Zealand. This package of three programmes marks the beginning of this new era. They are Industry New Zealand programmes and the Ministry of Economic Development is delivering them prior to Industry New Zealand's incorporation on 1 September 2000.

There is more to come. Industry New Zealand and the Ministry of Economic Development will have the capabilities and programmes to deliver sustainable and co-ordinated economic development to our nation.

Government will no longer stand back and watch from the sidelines. We are a hands-on Government committed to building partnerships with industry, businesspeople, local authorities, Maori authorities and regions to achieve shared goals of growth. They will be Partnership for Growth.

The programmes outlined in this package all emphasise a bottom-up approach to encourage innovation, skills development and effective implementation of good ideas and projects. We are working with regions, business and industry to create the networks and relationships that we need to get this nation moving, growing and flourishing.

Three new programmes are detailed here: the Industry New Zealand Enterprise Awards Scheme, the Industry New Zealand Regional Partnerships Programme and the Industry New Zealand Investment Ready Scheme. The three new programmes will be joined by other regional and business development initiatives in the future.

I urge you to support and take advantage of these new programmes, and join the partnership for growth they are introducing. Together, we can build a strong, steady and sustainable economy that will benefit

These programmes are now administered by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise
