Electricity Statistics Annual Returns

1. The Electricity (Statistics) Regulations 1996 enables the Ministry of Economic Development to collect annual electricity statistics from electricity enterprises. The returns apply to years ending 31 March.
2. The Ministry will inform the companies from which such statistics are required by means of a notice that will include questionnaires detailing the information to be returned. Notices are normally served after the end of the statistical year, and returns required by 31 August (five months after the end of the statistical year).
3. The annual electricity returns are referred to as the MED-E series:
- MED-EG for electricity generators;
- MED-ED for electricity transmitters or distributors;
- MED-ER for electricity retailers.
- MED-EA for embedded only electricity generators (at MEDs discretion)
4. Companies may be required to complete more than one of these returns.
5. Electronic versions of the above returns are now available as MS Excel 2003 files. Please choose the appropriate return that you want to download.
(It is best to use the "Save Target As..." (or equivalent) function of your browser to save a file to a local drive (usually found by right-clicking on the link). If you follow a link directly, make sure that MS Excel is running on your system first.)
6. Once your returns are completed and checked, please return these to the Ministry of Economic Development electronically as an excel workbook.
- Electronic copies must be submitted to energydata@med.govt.nz;
- Hard copies are no longer accepted or requiered except by prior arrangemnet. Please contact Sam Thornton (see below) to arrange this.
