Type of Investigation

New shipper reassessment of anti-dumping duties

Description of Goods

.Peaches (halves, slices and pieces) packed in retail sized cans when produced by Venus Growers of Veria, Greece

Country of Origin

Greece

Investigation "Milestones"

Date of Initiation:2 November 1999
Date of Completion of the Reassessment:14 April 2000
Effective Date of Reassessed Anti-Dumping Duty Rates:*2 November 1999

*The Ministry's normal practice for new shipper reassessments is to set the effective date of any change to the rate or amount of anti-dumping duty as the date of initiation of the reassessment itself.  This practice has been followed in this case.

Summary of Reassessment

The reassessment concluded that:

  • imports of canned peaches into New Zealand from Venus Growers are not dumped,

and therefore

  • anti-dumping duties on canned peaches imported or intended to be imported into New Zealand, and supplied by Venus Growers of Veria, Greece, should be reassessed to nil.

The Ministry also considered whether it was necessary, as a result of this reassessment to reassess the generic rate of anti-dumping duty (currently 17% ad valorem) applicable to Greek canned peach suppliers other than those specified in the relevant schedule of anti-dumping duty rates.  It was determined that this was not necessary and that the "generic rate" should remain unchanged.

Reassessment Report:

Reassessment of Anti-Dumping Duties

The reassessed rate of anti-dumping duty applicable to Venus Growers has been incorporated into the overall schedule of anti-dumping duty rates applicable to canned peaches from Greece.  The schedule forms part of the NZCS instruction relating to these goods which is available as shown below.
