Summary

Background

Based on an application from the New Zealand industry, the Ministry of Economic Development initiated a dumping investigation on 31 October 2003. The application alleged that galvanised wire from China and Malaysia was being imported at dumped prices and that this was threatening to cause material injury to the New Zealand industry in the near future.

[Conclusion]

The termination report concluded that:

  • Due to negligible actual and potential volumes of dumped imports from China, there was insufficient evidence of dumping to justify proceeding with the investigation in relation to China.

Section 11(1)(a) of the Act provides that where the Minister is satisfied that there is insufficient evidence of dumping to justify proceeding with the investigation, the Minister shall terminate the investigation with respect to those goods.

On 29 March 2004 the Minister of Commerce terminated the investigation in relation to China.

The Minister of Commerce made a final determination in relation to imports from Malaysia on 27 April 2004.
