Information Note

In order to provide an input into the development of climate change policy, the Ministry, in conjunction with other departments, commissioned three documents:

The NZIER report addresses the question of whether government action prior to 2008 can minimise overall abatement costs for New Zealand, and identifies the factors that will influence the cost effectiveness of such action.

The conclusions of the NZIER report are critically dependent on certain key assumptions, and the use of a particular methodology. The CIE review considers the appropriateness of this methodology and the assumptions that have been made by the NZIER report. Similarly, the STA review assesses the validity of the assumptions and the methodology of the NZIER report. The STA review also comments on the findings of the CIE review.

The documents do not have any formal status. They should be seen merely as inputs to the consideration of climate change policy.
