Feedback sought on draft electricity regulations

Short Description
The recently enacted Electricity (Renewable Preference) Amendment Act states that no power station above 10 MW in capacity and using more than 20 percent fossil fuel may be built and operated without an exemption granted by the Minister of Energy.
MED today released for consultation proposed regulations that are needed to give effect to government policy encouraging investment in renewable electricity generation.
The recently enacted Electricity (Renewable Preference) Amendment Act states that no power station above 10 MW in capacity and using more than 20 percent fossil fuel may be built and operated without an exemption granted by the Minister of Energy. Any exemption must meet criteria prescribed in regulations.
Consultation on the proposed regulations closes on 5 November 2008. The draft regulations and an associated discussion paper are available on the MED website at: www.med.govt.nz/electricity/renewables-pref/
