The Minister of Energy releases the document Sustainable Energy: Creating a Sustainable Energy System for New Zealand, which explains the government's strategic direction in energy policy; explains how energy-related policies work in that strategic direction; and identifies possible future directions for policy. |

To ensure New Zealand met its IEA obligations to hold 90 days of oil reserves, the government decides that it would tender for contracts that provide the option to purchase stock in an emergency. |

The Ministry of Economic Development releases the discussion paper Options for Government Response to an Oil Supply Disruption. This paper provides an outline of, and seeks feedback on, proposed aspects of an oil emergency response strategy for the purpose of assisting with its ongoing development. |

The Ministry releases the Transitional Measures Discussion Paper. This paper outlines possible transitional measures for the electricity and stationary energy supply sectors. Feedback is sought on these options to help with policy development. |

The Minister of Energy releases the Draft New Zealand Energy Strategy to 2050. This paper was the basis of consultation with stakeholders on the vision and actions for New Zealand's energy future. |

The Minister of Energy releases the New Zealand Energy Strategy to 2050 and the Government Spokesperson for Energy Efficiency and Conservation releases the New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy. The New Zealand Energy Strategy to 2050 sets out the government’s vision for a sustainable, low emissions energy system and describes the actions that will be taken to make this vision a reality. The NZEECS is an action plan under the Energy Strategy. |

The Minister of Energy releases the Oil Emergency Response Strategy. The Strategy sets out the broad policy and operational aspects that underpin the government’s response to a disruption of oil supplies. |
