The Ministry of Economic Development today released the latest edition of the New Zealand Energy Data File.
The Ministry of Economic Development today released the latest edition of the New Zealand Energy Data File, which includes data up to the end of the 2007 calendar year.
Highlights of this edition include:
- Total energy consumption has continued to grow at a lower rate than GDP growth.
- Petrol and diesel prices remain low relative to other OECD countries.
- Wind generation capacity almost doubled during 2007.
- Significant investment in new renewable electricity generation is planned.
- There has been large growth in domestic oil and gas production as a result of the Tui and Pohokura fields performing strongly.
- Oil and gas exploration activity remains high by New Zealand standards.

Background
The New Zealand Energy Data File presents detailed information and statistics on the supply and use of energy in New Zealand. It includes supply and demand information by fuel type, energy balance tables, pricing information, international comparisons and oil and gas reserve information.
It incorporates annual data from 1974, where available, with quarterly data and annual energy balance for more recent years.
