As part of Ministry of Economic Development's efforts to understand new technologies which might impact on New Zealand's energy supply, demand, prices, and greenhouse gas emissions, the Ministry's Energy Information & Modelling Group contracted CRL Energy in late 2006 to produce this short report on the economics of producing liquid fuels from lignite coal in New Zealand. All scenarios examined use carbon capture and storage technology to minimize the carbon dioxide releases in processing.
