Key Initiative 2: Increasing the Business Capability of Exporters

[ Last Updated 6 July 2007 ]
Short Description Information on the initiative to increase food and beverage exporter's business capability.

Taskforce theme: transformation

Purpose:

Develop an audit and mentoring programme similar to the Better By Design programme, specifically to assist small and medium food and beverage businesses to develop export capability.

What we will do:

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) will review existing audit and mentoring programmes available to small and medium businesses in the food and beverage sector and assess whether the current level of assistance is meeting their needs.

How this will help:

Increasing the business capability of exporters is critical to achieving New Zealand's economic transformation. The analysis will help NZTE to determine whether the needs of food and beverage firms can be met by expanding or altering an existing programme, or whether there is a case to develop a new one.

Agencies involved:

NZTE in consultation with the Ministry of Economic Development (Deloitte has been commissioned to undertake the review of existing programmes).

Timeline:

A report outlining the outcome of the review and the proposed plan of action is to be provided to the Minister for Industry and Regional Development by the end of December 2007.

Budget:

The budget required for this project is $0.1 million. This has been met from NZTE baselines.
