Profile of Submissions Received

Summary of Submissions Received on the Digital Technology Discussion Paper

Intellectual Property Policy Team
[ Last Updated 20 October 2005 ]

5. Submissions were received from a total of 74 respondents, with more than one submission being received from a small number of respondents. While a breakdown of the submissions received is given below, some of the submissions came from organisations that represented a significant number of members. Comments in this paper about whether a majority supported certain positions are based on an assessment of the views of these broader interest groups, rather than simply a count of the actual submissions received.

6. Thirty-three of these were received from copyright owner/creator groups including producers, publishers and individual creators. These included four submissions from Crown Entities operating in the film, broadcasting and publishing industries.

7. Thirty-four submissions came from individual users of copyright works or user groups, including academics and researchers. Of these, three were from government departments and nine represented the views of libraries, educational institutions and museums, and their industry associations.

8. A further seven submissions, from legal experts, information technology professionals and one foreign government agency, provided general comment and could not be easily classified as presenting a strictly "owner" or "user" viewpoint.

9. Not all respondents answered every question posed in the discussion paper, and some respondents made general comments only. A small number of submissions addressed copyright issues outside the scope of the review.
