Infrastructure Stocktake: Infrastructure Audit

[ Last Updated 9 December 2005 ]

This study was undertaken between August and December 2003 and is based on information and opinion available at that time. The report provides a snapshot of the infrastructure sectors investigated. Many of the sectors are undergoing rapid change. With the passage of time, the information on which this report was based will be superseded.

A selection of events that have occurred since this study was concluded which have a bearing on its findings include:

  • The cancellation by Meridian Energy of Project Aqua, which is likely to have implications for energy supply, electricity transmission, emissions and also related irrigation projects.
  • Ongoing expansion of routes and seat capacity in the international aviation market, with the introduction of new carriers.
  • Continued investigation and development of responses, in both road and rail sectors, to transport problems.

It was evident during the preparation of the report that there was heightened awareness of infrastructure issues and the critical importance of functioning infrastructure to sustainable growth. One of the outcomes of this may be an acceleration of the rate of change in some of the sectors.
