Media conferences are held for key data releases, to ensure that the latest information can be rapidly and accurately given to every New Zealander through the general media. Media releases give a simple outline of the new information, while more detail is given in complementary "Hot Off The Press" commentary, technical notes, and tables. Statistics NZ produces labour-related statistics such as employment and unemployment rates, wage and salary levels, numbers of filled jobs or qualifications held by the workforce. This information can be obtained at various levels, for example by industry category or by region, and is sourced from surveys such as the five-yearly Census of Population and Dwellings, the quarterly Household Labour Force Survey and the Quarterly Employment Survey, as well as databases such as the Student Loans Database, Business Frame and the Linked Employer-Employee Database.

Information on topics such as employment and unemployment, wage growth, work stoppages and student loan borrowers is all available free of charge from this website.
