SMEs in New Zealand: Structure and Dynamics - 2005

[ Last Updated 3 November 2005 ]

More than 97% of New Zealand businesses have less than 1% overseas equity.

Tables 8 and 9 show businesses by degree of overseas equity. The data show that the majority of businesses have no overseas equity. The percentage of all businesses with more than 50 percent overseas equity was very similar in 2004 to what it was in 2003.

Larger enterprises are more likely to have overseas equity. As at February 2004, 26.16 percent of enterprises with more than 100 employees had more than 50 percent overseas equity, while enterprises with 5 or fewer employees only had 2.6 percent.

Note that for confidentiality reasons the 100-499 and 500+ EC size groups could not be provided in this table.
