WIPO Internet Treaties
(42) LIANZA's concern is that the WIPO Internet Treaties appear to be shifting the balance heavily towards advantaging copyright owners, at the expense of users of copyright works. In LIANZA's view, New Zealand copyright law must be framed in such a way that ensures that the appropriate balance is maintained, for the benefit of New Zealand society as a whole.
(43) LIANZA therefore support's the Ministry's recommendations in paragraph 213, that any changes to legislation should be made in a way that achieves the required balance, and best meets our national interests (paragraph 210), while over time enabling New Zealand's compliance with the relevant aspects of the WIPO Internet Treaties.
