Draft New Zealand Energy Strategy to 2050

Ministry of Economic Development
[ Last Updated 9 February 2007 ]

Within this section …

We all have a stake in where our energy comes from, how we use our energy, and the impact our energy choices have on the world around us.

The government is now consulting and seeks your views on the medium- and long-term energy policy issues to inform the development of the final strategy. This draft is a basis for consultation with all New Zealanders. Some decisions on New Zealand's energy future have already been made, while other initiatives are under development. A mix of government decisions and proposals for consultation are included in each chapter of Part 2. Areas where further investigation and analysis would be useful are also signalled. You are encouraged to answer the suggested questions or you can submit a statement about your views.

This draft NZES does not provide details on timing, resources, or accountabilities. Its purpose is to identify the direction and range of actions or options as a basis for engagement and refinement with stakeholders. Implementation issues will be considered in the action plan to accompany the final NZES.

When responding, please state whether you are responding as an individual or representing the views of an organisation. If responding on behalf of an organisation, please make it clear who the organisation represents and, where applicable, how the views of members were assembled.

Submissions are due by 5:00pm, Friday 30 March 2007. A response can be sent electronically (preferred) by email, by using the Have Your Say on the Draft New Zealand Energy Strategy response forms, or sent by letter to:
