Proposal
1. This paper seeks Cabinet's agreement to refocus the direction of regional economic development policy to support the government's economic transformation agenda. This will build on the regional economic development activity that the Regional Partnerships Programme (RPP) has catalysed, but will require changes to the current programme in order to get a sharper focus on New Zealand's international competitiveness. I intend to signal these changes at the upcoming Economic Development Association of New Zealand (EDANZ) conference on 30 August.
