[Introduction]
1. The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) supports the application of Electric Waters Limited for renewal of water rights, in so far as it contributes to national energy objectives, to enable it to continue to fully use a hydro electricity power station referred to as the Onekaka Hydropower Scheme in Golden Bay.
2. The particular parts of the application MED supports are:
The whole of the application.
3. The reasons for making this submission are:
The Onekaka Hydropower Scheme, although small in scale, is well aligned with the government's objectives, particularly the energy objectives to deliver security of supply with an increasing focus on renewable energy sources.
