Addressing Concerns of Māori
56. The new Patents Bill will contain provisions establishing a Māori Consultative Committee for the Intellectual Property Office. The Māori Consultative Committee's functions include advising the Commissioner of Patents on individual patent applications as to whether the commercial exploitation of inventions that involve traditional knowledge or indigenous plants and animals would be contrary to Māori values.
