The Ministry of Economic Development is seeking expressions of interest from individuals wishing to be considered for appointment as a member or associate member of the Commerce Commission.

The Commission enforces legislation that promotes competition in New Zealand markets and prohibits misleading and deceptive conduct by traders. It also enforces legislation specific to the telecommunications, dairy and electricity industries.

The Commission has between four to six members appointed by the Governor-General, and a number of associate members appointed by the Minister of Commerce.

In addition to having extensive knowledge and experience in any of the following areas - industry, commerce, economics, law, accountancy, public administration, and consumer affairs; you will need to have:

  • proven knowledge of, and experience in regulatory, network or industrial organisation economics or financial accountancy; or
  • senior level managerial, board or advisory experience in a network industry (telecommunications, gas and electricity).

The Ministry will carry out short listing, interviews, and reference checks as part of the assessment process.
