The Authority, established by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2000, is responsible for encouraging, promoting and supporting energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy sources in New Zealand. In essence, EECA works to improve the energy choices of New Zealand consumers, businesses, and householders.
Members of the Authority must have knowledge and experience in matters relevant to the responsibilities of the Authority, as required by Section 25 of the Act.
This will include knowledge of and experience in governance and public sector management. It may also include knowledge and experience of:
- The transport sector
- The energy sector, including transport energy
- The environment
- Community organisations and consumer issues
- Commerce, marketing and communications
- Science and technology.
It is also desirable that Authority members can demonstrate skills and expertise in communicating and interacting with the public about energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy.
