Member of the Electricity Commission Board

Status:Archived

Job Number: Member of the Electricity Commission Board  Closing Date: 29 June 2007

The Minister of Energy is seeking expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as Member of the Electricity Commission.

The Electricity Commission was created in 2003 as an independent regulatory body to oversee governance, operation and development of New Zealand's electricity transmission, wholesale and retail markets.  It works in a multi-faceted environment, regulating a complex electricity network and market whilst taking into account Government policies relating to energy, sustainability, the environment, climate change and economic transformation.

A well functioning electricity industry is central to the well being of New Zealand, providing essential services for domestic, industrial and commercial electricity consumers.

The Board meets in Wellington for two days every three weeks.  In addition, Commissioners are required to spend time preparing for meetings and on other Board matters.  In total, this can involve a commitment of up to two days in any one week.

We are looking for Members who can display proven leadership skills and be effective decision-makers in a regulatory environment.  A sound understanding of the relationship between the Government and Crown Entities is essential, as is a professional approach and strong analytical skills.  An interest in and familiarity with the issues facing the New Zealand electricity sector is preferred.

Any potential conflict of interest must be declared at time of application.

Submissions are currently open for two Commissioner positions for a fixed-term period of up to three years, effective November 2007.

Confidential enquiries may be made to Peter Harris, deputy Chair of the Commission, on 04 460 8841.

Applicants should:

  • provide an up-to-date CV (using your own format or the CV form provided)
  • provide a covering letter, and
  • complete a declaration form.

Applications close Friday, 29 June 2007.

See How to Apply for more details.
