Call for Applications for the Standards Council

The Minister of Commerce is seeking applications from people wishing to be considered for appointment as a member of the Standards Council. The term of appointment is for three years.

The primary role of the Council is to develop standards, and to promote, encourage and facilitate the use of standards in New Zealand.

Members must have knowledge of, and experience in, management, and the development and use of standards. The Council requires new members who can bring skills and expertise in some, or all of the following areas:

  • skills and experience in the health sector, and if reinforced with experience in government relationships this would be a further advantage; and
  • skills and experience in the development and sale of intellectual property in the publishing sector, especially in electronic form as the Council’s major asset is intellectual property in the Catalogue of Standards.

It will also be useful if the candidates have marketing experience or background in addition to any of the primary skills mentioned above. Note that Cabinet has agreed that, as a general rule, public servants should not be appointed to statutory boards.
