Establishment of the Charities Commission
The Government has made a series of decisions relating to the establishment of a Charities Commission that it plans to have operational in 2004.
A new site has been created to provide both background and up-to-date information on the Charities Bill and the establishment of the Charities Commission.
A website was launched when the Charities Bill was enabled in Parliament on 23 March 2004. Information on this site relating to the Charities Commission is now outdated and has been transferred across to the new Charities Commission website which has been set up in preparation for the Charities Commssion Registry.
The Charities Act was passed in April 2005. The Charities Commission came into being on 1 July 2005. All documentation policy documentation relating to the Ministry's involvement in the establishment of the Charities Commission should now be referred to the Charities Commission.
