Law Commission Review of Life Insurance Regulation
On 3 April 2003 Lianne Dalziel, as Minister Responsible for the Law Commission, formally accepted a proposal that the Law Commission review the framework for regulation and supervision of life insurance and life insurance products in New Zealand and the appropriate way to regulate the provision of life insurance in New Zealand.
In November 2004 the Law Commission published its final report entitled Life Insurance (Report 87). To view the paper online visit the publications section of the Law Commission [external link]. Under Cabinet Office guidelines the Government has six months to respond to the Law Commission's Report, from the date on which it was tabled in Parliament. The Final Report was tabled on 2 December 2004. The Government's response was tabled on 27 May 2005.
The work completed by the Law Commission has been included and is being progressed in the Ministry's current Review of Financial Products and Providers.
