All restrictions of parallel importation were removed in 1998. The issue of parallel importing has been the subject of a number of reviews since 1999. These reviews have focused upon the impact of parallel importing on New Zealand's creative industries. In 2003, the government introduced a limited ban on the parallel importation of films for nine months from the film's first release. The government also indicated that it wanted the parallel importing policy, and its implications for the creative industries, to be kept under review.
