Gas Governance
The Ministry is responsible for monitoring and overseeing, from a government perspective, the co-regulatory model of gas governance which was introduced in December 2004. The cornerstone of this co-regulatory regime was the formation of the industry body - the Gas Industry Co. (GIC) [link to GIC website]. The Gas Industry Co. is charged with making recommendations to the Minister of Energy to meet the Government's objectives for the gas sector as detailed in the Gas Act 1992 and the Government Policy Statement on Gas Governance.
