Legislating against Spam
The Government has signalled that legislation may be an appropriate measure for assisting in dealing with the growing problem of spam. A discussion paper, released on 17 May 2004, sought to discuss and obtain feedback on the various policy issues which are raised when considering anti-spam legislation.
Forty-three submissions were received in response to the discussion paper. These and a summary of the submissions can be located through the links below.
The Government considered papers on the design of legislation to address spam in November 2004 with a Bill proposed for introduction into the House in the first half of 2005.
